A few hours ago I wrote about the announcement of the REDMI K90 Max gaming smartphone with a fan and an 8550 mAh battery, and now Xiaomi has unveiled another new product on the same day with the same gaming focus, but in a different format. The REDMI K Pad 2 tablet is a compact device with a flagship chip, a 9100 mAh battery, and an upgraded cooling system. The REDMI K Pad series was originally conceived as an answer to the question “what if you took top-tier hardware and packed it into a small body?” The second generation follows the same logic, but with noticeably reworked internals. Let me break down what’s changed and whether it’s worth waiting for this tablet on the global market.

The new gaming tablet from Xiaomi
REDMI K Pad 2 Design
The new REDMI K Pad 2 comes in three colors: dark gray, light silver, and purple. Dimensions — 204.98×133.73×6.62 mm, weight — 345 g. For a tablet with a Dimensity 9500 and a 9100 mAh battery inside, these are very compact figures.
Xiaomi retained the body layout of the first generation: the chip is positioned right in the center of the back panel, ensuring even heat distribution and reducing discomfort from heating when held in hands. Among the notable changes — a new multifunction button has been added, which the predecessor didn’t have. Water resistance is not officially claimed (for a tablet of this class, this is the only obvious shortcoming).
REDMI K Pad 2 Specifications
In terms of hardware, a compact tablet of this level is rarely found on the market. The screen is 8.8 inches, IPS, 3008×1880 resolution, 165 Hz refresh rate, 1100 nits brightness, 16:10 aspect ratio. The touch sensor operates at 240 Hz. For a tablet, this is an unusually high figure. The rest of the specs are listed here:
| Specifications | REDMI K Pad 2 |
|---|---|
| Display | 8.8 inches, IPS (3008×1880), 165 Hz |
| Rear Camera | 13 MP |
| Front Camera | 8 MP |
| Processor | MediaTek Dimensity 9500 |
| Memory | 8/256, 12/256, 16/512 GB |
| Battery | 9100 mAh |
| Charging | 67 W |
The REDMI K Pad 2 processor is the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 on 3 nm, the same flagship chip found in the REDMI K90 Max. Wireless interfaces include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. There’s no NFC and no memory card slot. By the overall set of specifications, the K Pad 2 could easily rank among the best Android tablets. Separately worth noting are the two USB-C ports — a rarity for tablets. One operates on USB 3.2 Gen 1 standard, the other on USB 2.0, both support 67 W charging and 22.5 W reverse charging. Two vibration motors and stereo speakers complete the picture.
Powerful Gaming Tablet
The Dimensity 9500 in such a thin body requires serious cooling. Xiaomi increased the heat dissipation area from 12,050 to 15,300 mm² (an increase of about 27%). This directly affects performance stability under sustained load: the chip throttles less, and the tablet maintains peak performance longer.

A Xiaomi gaming tablet of this class is a rarity on the market in general. Most manufacturers either make compact tablets with budget chips or powerful tablets with large screen sizes. The REDMI K Pad 2 occupies a niche where both a one-hand-friendly size and uncompromised performance are needed simultaneously. A powerful gaming tablet in a body just 6.62 mm thick and weighing 345 g — that’s exactly how the essence of this device can be described.
Two vibration motors, a fast 240 Hz touch sensor, and stereo speakers enhance the gaming experience to a level that most gaming tablets simply lack. If you’re looking for a powerful tablet for long gaming sessions in a compact form factor — there are virtually no alternatives to the REDMI K Pad 2 on the market.
REDMI K Pad 2 Release Date and Price
The REDMI K series is traditionally released only for the Chinese domestic market. The REDMI K Pad 2 release date outside of China has not been announced, and it will not officially appear in Russia. However, there’s already a precedent: the first-generation REDMI K Pad was released on the global market under the name Xiaomi Pad mini, which became its successor for users outside China. Following the same logic, the global version of the REDMI K Pad 2 could be released as the Xiaomi Pad mini 2 — that’s the name to watch for.
Prices in China by configuration:
- 8/256 GB — 3,399 yuan (≈ $470);
- 12/256 GB — 3,799 yuan (≈ $525);
- 16/512 GB — 4,799 yuan (≈ $663).
This is 600 yuan more expensive than the first generation. At the same time, the higher configurations of 12+512 and 16+1024 GB were canceled. The top variant is now limited to 16/512 GB. For those who want to buy the REDMI K Pad 2 without ordering from China, it makes more sense to wait for the Xiaomi Pad mini 2 announcement. If history repeats itself, a global release should happen.
Is the REDMI K Pad 2 Worth Buying?
A powerful tablet in a compact body with a flagship chip, a 9100 mAh battery, and 67 W charging — the offering is almost unique on the market. There are virtually no competitors in the 8-9 inch format with this level of performance.
The weak points are clear: no NFC, no microSD slot, no water resistance, and the higher memory configurations were canceled. And most importantly — the REDMI K Pad 2 release outside China is not planned directly. You can wait for the Xiaomi Pad mini 2, but the timing is unknown.
