Xiaomi 17 Max has arrived at a convenient time: the ruble has strengthened, and smartphones have hit record low prices due to the dollar exchange rate. Chinese flagships on AliExpress are now cheaper than ever, and on May 21, Xiaomi officially unveiled a new model in the lineup that sits between the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. Let’s break down what the Xiaomi 17 Max smartphone is all about and whether it’s worth waiting for.

How Xiaomi 17 Max Differs from Xiaomi 17 Pro Max
The first question when looking at the Xiaomi 17 Max phone — why does it exist if there’s already a Pro Max? The answer is straightforward: Xiaomi 17 Max is the Pro Max without the rear screen. The additional AMOLED display on the back panel found on the Pro Max is absent here. Instead, the battery has grown from 7500 to 8000 mAh, and the price has dropped by 1200 yuan.
This is an honest compromise. The rear screen on the Pro Max is a nice feature, but most buyers don’t need it in everyday life. The Xiaomi 17 Max battery at 8000 mAh with a record capacity for the lineup is a far more practical argument.
Xiaomi 17 Max Specifications
Xiaomi 17 Max specifications in numbers:
| Specifications | Xiaomi 17 Max |
|---|---|
| Display | 6.9 inches, LTPO OLED (2608×1200), 1-120 Hz |
| Main Camera | 200 + 50 + 50 MP |
| Front Camera | 32 MP |
| Processor | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 |
| Memory | 12/256, 12/512, 16/256, 16/512 GB |
| Battery | 8000 mAh |
| Charging | 100W wired, 50W wireless, 22.5W reverse |
A few details beyond the table. The LTPO display with a 1-120 Hz range (adaptive refresh rate reduces battery consumption in static scenarios). Ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner, 1115X stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, IR blaster. IP68 water resistance. HyperOS 3 shell based on Android 16. An important point for Russian buyers: Xiaomi 17 Max supports all LTE bands necessary for Russia — 1, 3, 7, 8, and 20. The smartphone will work normally with Russian carriers without connectivity issues.
Xiaomi 17 Max Camera — Where’s the Compromise
The Xiaomi 17 Max camera is the most ambiguous part of the specifications. On one hand, the main 200 MP module uses a Samsung ISOCELL HP9 sensor with f/1.65 aperture and OIS (this is a serious sensor with a large light-sensitive area of 1/1.4 inches). Leica optics, 8K@30fps video recording — everything is in place.

To save costs, the camera had to be slightly trimmed in capabilities. Image: Xiaomi
On the other hand, compromises are noticeable. The 50 MP ultrawide comes without autofocus — meaning it won’t provide macro shooting or sharp close-up shots. The periscope telephoto offers only 3x optical zoom compared to 5x on the Pro Max. For those who value long-range photography, the difference will be fundamental. For those who only need a telephoto occasionally — it’s quite sufficient.
Xiaomi 17 Max Price and When to Expect It in Russia
The Xiaomi 17 Max release date is May 21, 2026, with sales starting in China on May 25. Xiaomi 17 Max pricing by configuration:
- 12/256 GB — 4799 yuan, approximately 59,600 rubles;
- 12/512 GB — 5399 yuan, approximately 67,000 rubles;
- 16/256 GB — 5099 yuan, approximately 63,300 rubles;
- 16/512 GB — 5799 yuan, approximately 72,000 rubles.
With this pricing, the Max’s positioning looks tricky: for the same money, you can get the Pro Max with a rear screen and 5x telephoto, albeit with Chinese firmware.
Xiaomi 17 Max in Russia will not officially appear: the smartphone is intended only for the Chinese market. But the Chinese version of Xiaomi 17 Max supports Russian LTE bands — meaning buying it through AliExpress will be quite feasible.
Is Xiaomi 17 Max Worth Buying
Looking at the big picture, here’s what’s interesting. For 59,600 rubles, the Xiaomi 17 Max 12/256 offers 8000 mAh, a top-tier chip, and a Leica camera. That sounds attractive. But Xiaomi 17 at 48,000 rubles is 11,000 rubles cheaper and also features the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Leica. It has a compact body, which is an advantage in itself. Xiaomi 17 Ultra at 71,000 rubles offers a fundamentally more powerful camera system with a 5x periscope and a better main sensor.
Buying the Xiaomi 17 Max makes sense in one specific case: you need a large 6.9-inch screen, maximum battery life, and don’t want to overpay for the Pro Max’s rear screen. If battery is the main criterion, 8000 mAh with 100W charging gets the job done.
For all other scenarios, the choice is not obvious. The situation will change when the Xiaomi 17 Max appears on AliExpress — then we’ll know the real purchase price. For now, the Xiaomi 17 at 48,000 rubles looks like a better deal for most use cases.
