If you’ve searched for “laptop” on a marketplace even once in the past month, the Echips brand has definitely popped up in your results. Models for 25-55 thousand rubles, all with Windows 11, all with 15.6-inch Full HD screens, names like Fusion and Atlant. Plus — lots of reviews and decent ratings, but common sense still tells you that a new laptop with Windows 11 at that price is somehow too suspicious. Normal brands offer noticeably less for comparable money. So I dug in to figure out what this beast actually is, and also looked at what exactly distinguishes the 5 popular Echips models, so you don’t have to guess blindly when choosing a laptop for work. Below — an honest breakdown without the hype.

What Is Echips and How to Read Specs of a Cheap Laptop

Echips is a Russian assembler brand that makes laptops based on standard Chinese platforms and sells them mainly through marketplaces. It doesn’t have its own factories or a decade-long history, but it does have solid assembly, a warranty, and pre-installed licensed Windows 11 Home. The latter at this price point is a real plus: no-name brands at the same price often come with a trial Windows or nothing at all.

The most important thing in a budget laptop is the processor — everything else is secondary. It determines whether the machine will adequately open ten Chrome tabs or painfully lag on the fifth. By the way, about tabs — I recently wrote about how Firefox was killing my laptop for 6 years, and on a weak processor, things like that hit especially hard. Next in importance — RAM (16 GB is already comfortable, 8 GB is tight for Windows 11) and SSD (512 GB is the norm, 256 GB will fill up quickly).

The screen on all five Echips models is the same: IPS, 1920×1080, 60 Hz, matte coating. This is a normal working base — don’t expect miracles. Color gamut and brightness are exactly at the “tolerable” level. Battery life is also roughly the same across all models: 5000 mAh battery, real-world 3-5 hours of light work.

And one last thing: the words “gaming laptop” in the names of lower models like Atlant or Fusion — that’s pure marketing from the seller. A real gaming laptop with a discrete graphics card costs 60 thousand and up. Echips uses integrated graphics everywhere, and you need to keep that in mind.

Echips Taganay — The Most Affordable, Only for Study and Office

This is the cheapest laptop with an SSD in the selection and simultaneously the simplest — Echips Taganay. Inside — Intel Celeron N5095, 4 cores with a frequency up to 2.9 GHz, 8 GB DDR4 and a 256 GB SSD. The Celeron N5095 is a chip for the most basic tasks: a browser with 5-7 tabs, documents, YouTube, Zoom. Opening 20 tabs and working in Excel simultaneously won’t work — it will noticeably lag.

Who it suits: a schoolkid for homework, a student for notes, parents at the country house, as a second “kitchen” laptop. It comes with Windows 11 Home out of the box, a matte Full HD screen, weighs 1.59 kg — adequate for the money. What not to expect: any games beyond browser-based ones, video editing, working with photos in Lightroom. RAM is soldered in one slot with the option to expand to 16 GB — you can upgrade later if desired.

Echips Atlant on Ryzen 5 3500U — An Oldie, but Livelier Than Any Celeron

Atlant on Ryzen 5 3500U — a compromise between price and real multithreading.

The second cheapest option is the Atlant on AMD Ryzen 5 3500U. Here you need to clarify right away: the Ryzen 5 3500U is a 2019 chip on the Zen+ architecture, an oldie by today’s standards. But it has 4 cores, 8 threads and a frequency up to 3.7 GHz, plus integrated Radeon RX Vega 8 — and all of this works noticeably faster than any Celeron or N95 from the lower models. The architecture is old, but the multithreading is real: Windows 11, ten tabs and Excel in parallel won’t surprise anyone.

Pros: 16 GB DDR4, 512 GB SSD, USB-C, matte Full HD IPS. Vega 8 will handle CS2, Dota 2, GTA V on low settings — playable, but without enthusiasm. As a laptop for work and study for 29 thousand rubles, this Atlant is a reasonable choice if the Taganay seems too slow and you don’t want to pay extra for the higher models. Just keep in mind that the processor is already 6 years old, and it has less future-proofing than newer chips.
