I’ve previously talked about why I bought the vivo X300 and why specifically from AliExpress. In short: I wanted a compact camera phone without overpaying for official retail. I got it. Was happy for six months. Then the screen went dark. I’m breaking down this story in detail because many people are afraid to buy smartphones from AliExpress precisely due to the fear of being left without warranty. Spoiler: the fear is partly justified, but not in the way you think.

Submitted the smartphone for warranty repair with an unexpected outcome

How I Bought the vivo X300 on AliExpress

On November 1, 2025, right after the sales launch, I picked up the vivo X300 smartphone in the 16/512 GB version. Including customs duty, it came out to about 60,500 rubles. For a compact flagship with a periscope camera — a fair price. You won’t find anything comparable for that money in official Russian retail.

In my review of the vivo X300 after six months of use, I shared my impressions of the smartphone in detail. In the shortest summary: an amazing compact device, exactly what I wanted. Camera, size, battery life — everything was satisfying. It seemed like the story could have ended there. But on May 27, 2026, everything changed.

Phone Screen Went Dark — What to Do

I was using the smartphone normally, and the phone screen went dark. It didn’t freeze, didn’t show artifacts — it simply went black. Meanwhile, the smartphone itself was clearly still working: there was haptic vibration, you could feel the response to taps. The screen simply wasn’t there.

The smartphone screen simply went dark and stopped turning on

My first thought was a glitch. I tried a forced Android restart: held the power button for 10 seconds. Didn’t help. Connected it to a charger — the smartphone apparently charged, but the vivo X300 screen still showed nothing. Waited two days hoping it would fix itself. It didn’t. It became clear: the problem was serious. And then came the question I honestly feared asking: would they accept a vivo X300 phone bought on AliExpress for warranty repair in Russia?

Warranty on Smartphones from AliExpress

I went to the official vivo website and found a repair with delivery service: this was convenient because there’s no vivo service center in my city. When filling out the request, the system required attaching a purchase receipt. I didn’t have a receipt, of course — who keeps receipts from AliExpress?

Used vivo’s repair with delivery service

I wrote to the AliExpress seller asking them to send purchase confirmation. The seller responded quickly and sent the document without any questions. Good tip: if you’re buying an expensive smartphone from AliExpress, save your correspondence and order screenshots right away — they’ll come in handy.

The seller sent the receipt to my email without any issues

I filled out the warranty repair request through the vivo website and attached the document from the seller. The next day, I received an email response: bring the smartphone with full accessories to a CDEK pickup point — the shipping label was already paid for by vivo. The email honestly warned: if diagnostics show a non-warranty case, I’d pay for the repair and return shipping myself. The risk was real. On June 1, I went to CDEK and submitted the smartphone. The warranty on the AliExpress phone started working — at least the logistics part.

How vivo Repairs Work in Russia

The smartphone was sent to Kazan, even though the nearest vivo service center to me is in Yekaterinburg. I didn’t bother figuring out the routing logic — that’s not my problem, that’s their internal process. On June 4, vivo called. They reported that the cause of the malfunction couldn’t be determined, which is interesting in itself for a warranty smartphone repair. And then they said: since the cause is unknown, they would perform a free warranty screen replacement. In other words, the doubt was resolved in my favor.

They asked for the screen unlock code for calibration through the engineering menu. I provided it because I had proactively signed out of all banking apps remotely from another device before sending the smartphone. Important advice for everyone: before submitting your smartphone for service, sign out of banking apps remotely through your banks’ personal accounts or apps on another device. It takes 10 minutes and eliminates any risks. The vivo warranty worked — all that was left was to wait for the return.

Smartphone Warranty Service — What I Got

On June 8, the smartphone came back. It looks good externally and works normally. A few nuances after the phone screen replacement: the light sensor initially worked strangely — auto-brightness reacted differently than I was used to. After a few hours, the system adapted. The fingerprint had to be set up again, which is expected after replacing a display with a built-in scanner. A protective film was applied to the display — neatly, but not as perfectly even as the factory one.

Hefty screen replacement cost

From the warranty report, I learned the details. The purchase date listed was November 22, 2025 — the day the smartphone was activated, not the actual purchase date of November 1. This is important: the vivo international warranty counts from the activation date, not the order date. The report also listed the recommended retail price of the replaced display — 20,400 rubles. That’s exactly how much I would have paid if the case had turned out to be non-warranty.
