The MacBook Neo has dropped in price in Russia to nearly the US level. Back in March, the most affordable MacBook was priced at 70,000 rubles, but now on Wildberries it costs 45,300 rubles plus a customs duty. The difference from the US price is just a few thousand. But there’s an opinion that the MacBook Neo may soon see a significant price increase. Here’s how this happened and whether you should buy right now.

How Much the MacBook Neo Costs in Russia and the USA

When Apple unveiled the MacBook Neo on March 4, 2026, the headline news was the price — $599 for the base version with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB SSD. The cheapest MacBook in the company’s history. But in Russia, that price tag instantly turned into 70,000 rubles at major retailers like M.Video, and in some places even 80,000. The gap with the US price was almost twofold, and many rightfully wondered — what’s the point of a budget MacBook if it costs as much as a full-fledged MacBook Air?

Two and a half months have passed, and the situation has changed dramatically. We open Wildberries and see the MacBook Neo 8/256 GB in Indigo for 45,300 rubles. Yes, a customs duty of about 5,000 rubles is added to that sum, bringing the total to approximately 50,300 rubles. But even with the duty — this is a completely different story compared to the 70,000 back in March.

Let’s do the math. In the States, the MacBook Neo in its base configuration (8/256 GB, A18 Pro chip) sells for $599. That’s the price without sales tax — in most US states, another 5-10% is added on top, but we’re taking Apple’s clean price tag. The Central Bank of Russia’s dollar exchange rate as of May 21, 2026 is around 73 rubles. Multiply 599 by 73 and you get approximately 44,000 rubles. That’s the bare American price without any markups, shipping, or customs.

On Wildberries, the same MacBook Neo costs 45,300 rubles — only 1,300 rubles more than in America. Even if you add the 5,000 ruble duty, the final 50,300 rubles including the duty means the difference from the American price is only about 7,000 rubles. For the Russian Apple market, where markups have traditionally been 30-50%, this is an almost unprecedented situation.

Why MacBook Neo Prices Have Dropped

Several factors came together here, and each played its role.

First, the strengthening of the ruble in May 2026. In March, when the MacBook Neo first went on sale, the dollar was around 84 rubles. Since then, the ruble has strengthened to 71 rubles — a drop in the dollar exchange rate of almost 15%. The ruble became the best-performing currency in the world in terms of dynamics against the dollar in May 2026, and this directly affected the cost of imported electronics. Analysts suggest that by the end of May, the dollar could drop to 70 rubles, but they warn — this could be a short-term bottom.

Second, market saturation. The MacBook Neo is a mass-market product. Apple deliberately positioned it as a laptop for students and everyday tasks, and sellers imported large shipments to Russia. The greater the supply — the lower the markup. On marketplaces, sellers compete with each other directly, and in this competition the price naturally drops.

Third, the specifics of marketplaces. On Wildberries and Ozon, sellers from the UAE and other countries with no or minimal tax on electronics operate. The seller’s warehouse in the screenshot is located in the UAE — hence the Dubai Free Zone label on the packaging. These sellers work with minimal margins and make their money on volume, which is why their prices are closer to international levels.

What You Need to Know Before Ordering a MacBook Neo

A low price is great, but there are nuances you should know about in advance.

  • Customs duty. Those extra 5,000 rubles on top are not the seller’s whim but a customs fee. It’s added when placing the order and is listed in small print on the product page. The total cost of the MacBook Neo on Wildberries is around 50,300 rubles, not 45,300 as it might appear at first glance.

  • Included accessories. Laptops from the UAE and other countries may come with a charger incompatible with Russian power outlets. Most likely, the package will include a USB-C cable and an adapter with a Type G (British) plug. An adapter costs next to nothing, but it’s better to order one in advance.
  • Keyboard. A MacBook Neo from abroad will have an international English layout, without Russian characters on the keys. For many, this doesn’t matter — you can add sticker engravings or simply get used to touch typing. But if you’re buying the laptop for a child or someone who’s used to looking at the keys, this is an important detail.

Should You Buy the MacBook Neo Now or Wait

This is the question everyone eyeing this laptop is asking. And there’s no definitive answer — it depends on how much risk you’re willing to take.

On one hand, the current price is one of the best since the MacBook Neo went on sale in Russia. 50,300 rubles for a MacBook sounds almost unreal if you recall the price tags from three months ago. And further strengthening of the ruble could bring the price down a bit more. Some analysts forecast that by summer, the MacBook Neo on marketplaces could drop to 48,000-50,000 rubles including duty.

On the other hand, the ruble exchange rate is unpredictable. Analysts warn that the current strengthening has a speculative component, and a reversal could happen at any moment. If the dollar returns to 80-85 rubles, the MacBook Neo price on marketplaces will jump back up to 55,000-60,000.
