Siri AI appeared in the iOS 27 beta, and along with it surfaced a curious detail. The assistant’s shape on iPhone looks completely different from iPad and Mac. It might seem like a small thing. But it apparently confirms one of the main rumors about iPhone 18 Pro, which we’re expecting this fall. Externally, the new device will barely change. But in the small details, changes are definitely in the works.

What Siri AI Looks Like in iOS 27 on iPhone, iPad, and Mac

If you’ve already made it off the waitlist and tried the new Siri AI in the iOS 27 beta, you’ve surely noticed its visual appearance. On iPhone, the assistant looks like an elongated oval. More like a pill, really: a wide and flattened shape that stretches along the screen cutout.

This is what Siri looks like on current iPhones

But on iPad and Mac, it’s different. There, Siri AI takes the classic sphere shape, a neat glowing orb. It looks much more organic and closer to what Apple apparently intended from the start.

On other gadgets without Dynamic Island, it’s round

The different look of the assistant on different devices wouldn’t raise questions by itself. Tablets and computers have different screens, different interface logic. But it’s specifically on iPhone that Siri stands out from the overall picture. And the reason isn’t a design whim.

What the Siri AI Shape Tells Us About the Future iPhone 18 Pro Cutout

The answer lies in Dynamic Island. On current iPhones, the cutout for the front camera and Face ID sensors is quite large. To make the new Siri AI look cohesive, Apple had to stretch it exactly across the width of this cutout. Hence the pill shape: the company wanted the animation to integrate with the “island” rather than floating next to it on its own. If the Siri sphere just hung below a wide cutout, it would look awkward and messy.

Now recall the rumors. According to insiders, iPhone 18 Pro will get a noticeably smaller Dynamic Island, approximately 35% more compact than on iPhone 17 Pro. And here everything falls into a logical picture.

To make Siri round on iPhone too, they’ll need to shrink Dynamic Island

If the cutout becomes smaller, there will be no need to stretch Siri into a wide pill anymore. It can be displayed as that same sphere we already see on iPad and Mac. In other words, the assistant’s shape on current iPhones is essentially a forced compromise for the old large “island.” And on new models, this compromise simply won’t be needed.

So it turns out that the Siri AI design in iOS 27 indirectly confirms: the Dynamic Island reduction is indeed in the works. Apple is already tailoring the interface for future hardware, even though the hardware itself hasn’t been shown to us yet.

I should note right away: these are still rumors and guesses based on a beta. Apple hasn’t officially confirmed anything, and the assistant’s shape in an early version of iOS could well change by release. But the coincidence is too precise to write off as accidental.

What Design Changes to Expect in iPhone 18 Pro in 2026

The smaller “island” isn’t the only tweak attributed to the new device. Overall, iPhone 18 Pro is expected to be very similar to iPhone 17 Pro. The same wide camera block spanning the full width of the body, the same aluminum unibody. There won’t be a revolution in appearance, judging by leaks.

A compact Dynamic Island will be the main design change in the new smartphone

However, insiders mention several targeted design changes. The compact Dynamic Island, as we’ve established, is one of them. The others are being discussed more cautiously, but the overall idea is clear: Apple continues to refine the formula rather than rewriting it from scratch.

This is very much in line with the company’s approach in recent years. Major external changes happen rarely; the main work goes into details that you use every day. And reducing the cutout is exactly that kind of detail. A few extra millimeters of screen at the top don’t make a difference on their own. But combined with Siri’s new look and the overall interface cleanliness, it’s the kind of small thing that makes the phone visually more pleasing.

Is It Worth Waiting for iPhone 18 Pro for the New Dynamic Island

The conclusion is simple. If you’re planning to upgrade this fall and get iPhone 18 Pro, you’ll see Siri AI the way Apple intended it. That same sphere that already lives on iPad and Mac. No more stretched pills under a wide cutout.

Current iPhone owners shouldn’t be upset either. Siri AI works in pill form too — functionality isn’t affected at all. Only the visual presentation changes. But if interface aesthetics matter to you and you want to see the assistant in its “proper” form, this is one more small argument in favor of upgrading.

Personally, I like this approach from Apple. The company doesn’t just change hardware but also tailors the software to match, so everything looks like a unified whole. The shape of Siri AI in iOS 27 is a perfect example: sometimes the interface tells us more about future devices than photo and schematic leaks themselves.
