The main reason for the delay of many gadgets is a smarter and more personal Siri. Apple first showed it at WWDC 2024, but the assistant appeared in beta only two years later. Some devices like updated Apple TV and HomePod mini were reportedly held back specifically until the new Siri was ready.

Now that the assistant has entered testing, a wave of releases should begin. In addition to the usual September updates for iPhone and Apple Watch, Gurman expects a completely new smart home hub as early as this year.

  • iPhone Ultra — the first foldable iPhone with a 7.7-inch inner screen and a 5.3-inch outer screen. Instead of Face ID — Touch ID built into the power button. iOS 27 will be tailored for it with iPad-style multitasking: two apps side by side and other conveniences.
  • iPhone Air 2 — will add an ultra-wide camera, A20 chip, and increased battery life.
  • iPhone 20 Pro and 20 Pro Max — anniversary models for the iPhone’s 20th birthday with a “nearly bezel-less screen” and curved glass wrapping around the side edges.

The most practical thing here for most people is the standard Pro updates. The foldable iPhone Ultra is a device for enthusiasts and will almost certainly carry a premium price tag, so it won’t become mainstream.

New Mac, iPad, and Apple Watch: What to Expect from Apple

The watches will get a faster S11 chip or newer. Rumors about a redesign with Touch ID and additional health sensors are still contradictory, with some sources disputing them. However, Apple Watch Ultra 3 and newer are promised expanded satellite features: Apple Maps via satellite and sending photos in Messages without a cellular network.

There’s less news on tablets. iPad 12 will get an A18 or A19-level chip with Apple Intelligence support, while iPad mini will get a more powerful processor, OLED display, new speaker system, and water resistance.

Macs will be updated with new chips: Mac Studio will move to M5 Max and M5 Ultra, Mac mini to M5 and M5 Pro, iMac to M5 with new colors. The foldable iPhone Ultra, AirPods with cameras, and Apple Glasses are interesting, but this is tech for early enthusiasts, not for those who need a reliable phone or headphones. Remember that the entire list is Gurman’s forecast, not an Apple promise: timelines shift, and some features get cut before release.
