Apple has disconnected its free federal tech support phone number in Russia. Previously, users could get a consultation by calling an 8 (800) number, but now there’s only an automated message, while a live operator is available through a paid Moscow number. Calling Apple support for Russian users is no longer free — and this isn’t a temporary glitch, but the company’s official position.

New Apple Support Number in Russia

Previously, Apple had a hotline on the federal number 8 (800) 555-67-34 in Russia — calls to such numbers are traditionally free for the caller. Now a robot answers, stating that the number is no longer in service. There are no redirects or promises to restore the line.

Instead, Apple’s official support website for Russia lists a different number — +7 (499) 951-25-79. This is a regular Moscow landline number, and calling it is billed as a standard long-distance call according to your carrier’s rates.

Why Calling Apple May Now Cost Money

Apple doesn’t charge for the consultation itself — the money goes to your carrier for a long-distance call to Moscow. The exact cost depends on your plan: some mobile carriers include calls to Moscow landline numbers in their minute packages, while others charge separately.

What to check before calling:

  • whether your plan includes calls to landline numbers in other regions
  • what the per-minute rate is if you don’t have a package of minutes
  • whether your carrier has a free calls across Russia option

In the worst case, a long conversation with a support operator could cost several hundred rubles — especially if you have to wait in a queue.

Free Apple Tech Support Without Calling

Phone is not the only support channel, and for most tasks it hasn’t been the most convenient one for a long time. Apple has several free contact options that work in Russia:

  • chat with support through the website support.apple.com
  • Free Apple Tech Support Without Calling. The Support app is the most convenient way to contact Apple. Photo.

The Support app is the most convenient way to contact Apple

  • contacting through the Apple Support app on iPhone and iPad
  • requesting a callback from a specialist (in this case, Apple pays, not you)
  • written request via email

Chat and callback requests are the most practical options if you don’t want to pay for minutes. The Support app is also convenient because the system immediately sees your device, serial number, and warranty status — you won’t need to dictate this information verbally.

When It’s Better to Call Apple and When Chat Is Enough

For most iPhone, iPad, and Mac owners, this change will go unnoticed: people have been resolving issues through chat or the knowledge base for years and don’t call support at all. Real discomfort will be felt by those who prefer a voice format — for example, older generations or users whose only Apple device is broken and they have nothing to access chat from.

A separate category includes owners of devices with warranty issues and complex cases like Apple ID lockouts. In these situations, voice support is sometimes faster, but the issue can also be resolved through chat — it just takes longer in writing. If you need Apple support, don’t look for old saved numbers — they no longer work. The logic is simple:

Everything can be done step by step in the app

  1. open the Apple Support app on your iPhone or go to support.apple.com
  2. select your device and type of issue
  3. choose your contact method: chat, callback, or email
  4. if you specifically need a phone conversation with an operator — request a callback so you don’t pay for minutes

Calling the paid number +7 (499) 951-25-79 only makes sense in one case: when you have no other devices at hand and physically cannot request a callback.

What the Disconnection of Apple’s Free Number Means

Shutting down the free number is not a signal of the company’s complete departure from Russia, but rather a support channel optimization. Support as such continues to operate: the Russian-language website, chat, app, and callback remain available. Apple simply stopped paying for the federal 8 800 line, redirecting voice inquiries to a standard landline number.

The main takeaway for users is this: remember that the free support channel is now not the phone, but chat and the app. In 9 out of 10 cases, this is sufficient, and in the remaining case, you can request a free callback and wait for an operator without any communication costs.
