The nova series is one of HUAWEI’s best-selling lineups in Russia, and the new generation is already a contender for the budget camera phone rankings thanks to a lens with 1.5 million spectral channels and an advanced telephoto lens. Sounds very interesting. But the story of the HUAWEI nova 15 and nova 15 Pro has another side: processors and the absence of Google. Let’s go through everything in order, starting with the design of the new models.

HUAWEI nova 15 and nova 15 Pro Design

Both models look unmistakably HUAWEI: flat screens, metal frames, and the signature orbital ring around the camera module. The HUAWEI nova 15 Pro has a more interesting design: the horizontal camera module layout with two orbital rings looks fresh. The base version makes do with one ring and a more conventional vertical arrangement.

Thickness is one of the series’ trump cards. The nova 15 is 7.2 mm, the nova 15 Pro is 6.9 mm. Both smartphones are protected by Kunlun Glass, which HUAWEI claims is ten times stronger than regular glass. The color palette for the base version includes mint, white, and black. The Pro adds lavender. The mint and lavender options on both models feature shimmering stripes on the body. It looks quite stylish.

HUAWEI nova 15 and nova 15 Pro Specifications

Here’s how the key specifications of the nova 15 and Pro compare:

The hardware difference between the models is significant. The Kirin 8020 in the base version is a mid-range chip without major ambitions. The Kirin 9010S in the Pro is considerably more powerful — it’s the chip that powers HUAWEI’s flagships. The battery in both models is impressive: 6000 and 6500 mAh respectively. 100W charging with this capacity is a sensible solution. The Pro’s display additionally features an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz and a peak brightness of 4000 nits — noticeably better than the base version.

HUAWEI nova 15 Series Camera

The HUAWEI nova 15 series camera is the main selling point. Both models feature the signature ultra-realistic shooting lens with 1.5 million spectral channels. This is technology from HUAWEI’s top-tier flagships that ensures accurate color reproduction in portrait photography.

The main camera on the base version is 50 MP, f/1.9, with a 1/1.56-inch sensor, and a 12 MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom and OIS. The Pro’s main module is slightly better: f/1.8 with OIS already on the main camera. On top of that, the Pro has a 13 MP ultrawide with a 120-degree angle and macro shooting capability from 2.5 cm away. The base model lacks a wide-angle lens entirely.

The Pro version’s camera is especially impressive

The Pro’s front camera deserves a special mention: 50 MP with optical zoom from 0.8x to 5x. This is a rarity even among flagships — a front camera with real variozoom. For those who shoot a lot with the front camera, this is a strong argument in favor of the Pro.

HUAWEI nova 15 Release Date and Price in Russia

HUAWEI nova 15 was introduced in China back in December 2025, meaning Russian buyers had to wait several months. Now both HUAWEI nova 15 smartphones are officially available in Russia. HUAWEI nova 15 pricing by configuration:

  • nova 15 (12/256 GB) — 33,990 ₽;
  • nova 15 (12/512 GB) — 38,990 ₽;
  • nova 15 Pro (12/256 GB) — 41,990 ₽;
  • nova 15 Pro (12/512 GB) — 46,990 ₽.

These are discounted prices valid until April 30. After that date, they may increase. You can buy the HUAWEI nova 15 and Pro at official HUAWEI stores as well as from retailers. The HUAWEI nova 15 in Russia significantly surpasses the previous generation model, and the decision favors the new series: the battery has grown substantially, the camera is improved, and the design is refreshed.

Is the HUAWEI nova 15 Worth Buying?

Honestly, yes — but with caveats. The camera on both models is strong, the design is pleasant, and the battery and charging are top-notch. But there are two issues that are hard to ignore. First — the processors. The Kirin 8020 in the base version is a mid-range chip without 5G support, and in 2026, competitors offer the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 or Dimensity 8400 for the same money. The Kirin 9010S in the Pro is noticeably better, but it’s far from the Snapdragon 8 Elite or even the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. For 42,000-47,000 rubles, there are smartphones on the market with more current hardware.

Second — the absence of Google services. EMUI 15 comes without Google Play, without Google Maps, without the usual apps. AppGallery covers some needs, but far from all. Banking apps, navigation, some games — all of this requires workarounds. For those already in the HUAWEI ecosystem who know how to deal with this — it’s not a problem. For those switching from Android for the first time — it’s worth thinking carefully. Buying the nova 15 makes sense for those who value portrait photography, long battery life, and stylish design, and are willing to put up with ecosystem limitations. If Google services are critical, there are plenty of alternatives on the market with comparable cameras and a more familiar software environment.
