Foldable smartphones are no longer exotic — in 2026, even Apple is rumored to be preparing its first fold. Meanwhile, Samsung is releasing the eighth generation of the series. CAD renders and Galaxy Z Fold 8 specs have leaked online, and the picture is curious: no revolution, but a set of specific improvements that owners of previous “books” have been waiting for years. Honestly, after last year’s Fold 7 — which was truly surprising — it was naive to expect another big leap in a row. That makes it all the more surprising that the company seems to have finally addressed several long-standing issues with the series.

What the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Looks Like

Renders from Android Headlines based on CAD drawings leave no illusions — this is evolution, not revolution. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 design practically mirrors its predecessor. Dimensions when unfolded are approximately 158.4 × 143.2 × 4.5 mm, and when folded — 158.4 × 72.8 × 9 mm. The device is slightly thicker than the Fold 7 — literally by tenths of a millimeter, and the camera bump reaches 5.5 mm.

In practice, you won’t feel the difference. But this thickening has a specific reason — and you’ll probably like it.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 Battery and Charging

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 battery has finally grown to 5,000 mAh. For 2026, the number isn’t astronomical, but for the Fold lineup — it’s a real breakthrough: the series has been running on 4,400 mAh since 2021. Five years with the same battery — that’s putting it mildly, overkill.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 charging has also improved — from 25W to 45W. The Galaxy S26 Ultra already has 60W, but after the “25-watter,” even 45W feels like a different league. The increased battery is likely the reason for the slight increase in thickness. And this is one of those rare cases where extra tenths of a millimeter are an absolutely justified sacrifice.

What Screen Does the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Have

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 screen retains its previous diagonals — 8 inches for the inner panel and 6.5 inches for the outer one, both Dynamic AMOLED at 120 Hz. However, the technology has changed: Samsung is implementing dual-layer ultra-thin glass and a laser-perforated metal substrate. In simple terms — the screen crease should become virtually invisible. Samsung Display showcased this at CES 2026, and ironically, the same panels will go into the future foldable iPhone.

Inside — the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, the same chip as in the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Plus — a vapor chamber cooling system, which the Fold 7 lacked. For memory: 12 or 16 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of storage.

Data on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 camera varies. The ultrawide module upgrade is confirmed — from 12 to 50 MP. Some leaks promise a 200 MP main sensor, but the telephoto lens apparently remains the same — 10 MP with 3x zoom. A bit disappointing: the telephoto has long been due for a replacement.

Will the New Samsung Have S Pen

One of the most discussed rumors is the return of the S Pen to the Galaxy Z Fold 8. As a reminder: in the Fold 7, Samsung removed stylus support for the sake of a thin body. The decision was controversial. Now that the device has slightly thickened due to the battery anyway, bringing back the digitizer is a logical move. There’s no confirmation from Samsung yet, but the rumor looks plausible.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 release date hasn’t been announced yet, but Samsung traditionally unveils its foldable flagships in July at Galaxy Unpacked. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 price, according to preliminary estimates, will remain at around $1,999. However, with the current instability in component prices, nothing can be guaranteed — and an additional factor will be Apple’s pricing policy with its foldable iPhone.

Which Foldable Phone to Buy

If you have the Fold 7 — the situation is ambiguous. There are no breakthrough changes, the design is the same. But if you’ve been struggling with a quickly draining battery and slow charging — the Fold 8 finally fixes that. For owners of the Fold 5 or Fold 6, however, the upgrade is much more compelling: the cumulative improvements over two to three generations are already very noticeable.

A separate story is the “wide” Galaxy Wide Fold, which Samsung is preparing simultaneously. It’s an entirely different class of device, and it may well become the main premiere of the summer. Not long to wait — until July.
