When manufacturers say “a flagship for a reasonable price,” it usually means one of two things: either they’ve actually made something worthwhile, or they’re once again trying to sell you a compromise in pretty packaging. The POCO X8 Pro Max is a case that makes you take those words seriously. The company took the latest Dimensity 9500s processor built on a 3nm process, wrapped it in a body with IP68 and a 3500-nit screen, added an 8500 mAh battery, and called it all an affordable flagship. It sounds almost unbelievable, so let’s figure out if it’s really the case.

Beautiful? Yes. But what about the performance?
POCO X8 Pro Max Box Contents: What’s in the Box
Lately, box contents have been raising more and more questions. Everyone is curious about what the manufacturer included, especially when it comes to a mid-range smartphone. In the POCO X8 Pro Max, let’s be honest, the package contents are quite modest.
Inside the box, you’ll find the smartphone itself, a USB Type-C cable, a 100W power adapter, a protective case, a SIM ejection pin, and standard documentation. So the kit is standard, and by modern smartphone standards, even generous. The inclusion of a fast charger is especially nice. At least someone isn’t cutting corners on that.

Box in the brand’s style. Everything you need is inside.
We’ll talk more about the smartphone in a moment, but there’s not much else to say about the package. Except that the case deserves praise. It’s well-made, pleasant to the touch, and doesn’t look like a temporary solution for the first couple of months. It feels like it will last a long time and, with moderate use, won’t lose its appearance even after a year and a half of use.

The case is silicone, soft, but very pleasant to the touch.
Design and First Impressions of the POCO X8 Pro Max: A Flagship in Hand
Pick up the phone — and you immediately understand that this is not a budget plastic brick. The body measuring 162.9 × 77.9 × 8.2 mm weighs 218 grams — noticeable, but not critical. It’s an honest flagship weight that gives a sense of quality. Available colors — black, blue, and white — look restrained and not flashy.

The body is angular, as is the current trend.

A small touch in the form of a red-accented power button.
Corning Gorilla Glass 7i on the front protects the display from scratches and accidental drops. On the back — a matte surface that doesn’t collect fingerprints as aggressively as gloss. IP68 means full protection from dust and water at depths of up to 1.5 meters for half an hour. So the phone will survive rain, splashes by the pool, and an accidental drop in the sink — and that’s no small thing for a mid-budget smartphone.

The body is water-resistant and it stands on edge.
POCO X8 Pro Max Screen: 3500 Nits for Everyone
This is where POCO clearly didn’t skimp. The 6.83-inch display with a resolution of 2772 × 1280 pixels belongs to the 1.5K class — noticeably better than standard Full HD, but it doesn’t overload the processor like 4K. In practice, the image looks very sharp, and you won’t see pixelation even at maximum zoom.

The screen is high-quality. You can see it even from the photo.
Peak brightness of 3500 nits at 25% of the display area is a serious claim. Yes, under direct sunlight, the image will remain contrasty, without that annoying “can’t see anything” effect. However, in such conditions, I wouldn’t recommend watching movies at maximum brightness. Physics hasn’t been canceled, and high brightness heats up the battery. The sun makes the situation worse, and the battery won’t be very happy.
Beyond peak brightness, which is often quite high, it’s worth noting the typical brightness of 800 nits and HBM mode at 2000 nits. This is not the highest figure on the market, but very respectable. During my time using this smartphone, there weren’t any truly sunny days, but subjectively, from experience, I can say the screen is bright and there won’t be any problems with it in summer.
A 120 Hz refresh rate makes scrolling smooth, and the 2560 Hz touch sampling rate guarantees instant response to touches — which is especially relevant for mobile gamers.

The camera cutout takes up minimal useful screen area.
A particular pride of the model is the contrast ratio of 8,000,000:1. Subjectively, you won’t notice the transition from 2,000,000:1. At least not when going higher. If after the POCO X8 Pro Max you pick up something more modest, the difference may become noticeable. But the main thing is that this screen definitely ranks among the best, at least in its segment.
Completing the picture (literally) are 68 billion colors, P3 color gamut, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support — all of this turns video watching into a real pleasure. And 3840 Hz PWM dimming reduces eye strain when working in the dark, especially at low brightness. This really works. I remember models that didn’t pay attention to this parameter, and eyes really got tired when using them before bed.

Thanks to the high PWM frequency, the screen glows very evenly and doesn’t flicker.
The image quality and the manufacturer’s serious approach to the screen are confirmed by TÜV Rheinland certificates for low blue light and flicker. From the outside, it may seem like this is purely a marketing story, but it’s real concern for user health, confirmed by a serious and reputable laboratory.
