Well-known insider Sonny Dickson published photos of mockups showing the final dimensions of the iPhone Fold next to the iPhone 18 Pro Max. The foldable iPhone, which will be noticeably different from classic Apple smartphones, turned out to be significantly wider and shorter than Pro models, and when unfolded, its screen area approaches that of the iPad mini. Important: these are leaked mockups for case manufacturers, not a finished device. The final design may differ.

iPhone Fold dimensions: how the foldable iPhone compares to iPhone 18 Pro
iPhone Fold Design: What the Foldable iPhone Will Look Like
When folded, the iPhone Fold resembles a passport in shape — it’s wider and shorter than the familiar “flat” iPhones. This form factor may feel unusual in a pocket and in hand, especially for those accustomed to narrow, tall smartphones.
However, when unfolded, the iPhone Fold screen will measure about 7.8 inches diagonally. On paper, the difference from the 6.9-inch Pro Max seems small, but in practice, due to a different aspect ratio, the Fold’s usable display area will be significantly larger — closer to an iPad mini than to any iPhone.
Wide Screen for iPhone Fold

The foldable iPhone will be quite wide
The iPhone Fold design is clearly optimized for the unfolded mode. Apple, judging by the mockups, deliberately made the body wider when folded so that the unfolded screen would offer an elongated, landscape proportion.
Many foldable Android smartphones have a nearly square screen when unfolded, which is inconvenient for watching 16:9 video — the standard format for movies and TV shows. Apple apparently optimized the Fold specifically for media consumption, sacrificing compactness in the folded state.
This is a compromise: using the folded iPhone Fold with one hand will likely be less convenient than a regular iPhone. But the unfolded screen promises an entirely different viewing experience.
iPhone Fold Thickness: A Record Among iOS Devices

Touch ID will be located in the lock button
According to the leak, when unfolded, the iPhone Fold will be thinner than 5 mm — the thinnest iOS device in history. When folded — about 9.5 mm, which is slightly thicker than the 8.75 mm of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.
The thickness difference when folded is small but noticeable — approximately 0.75 mm thicker than the Pro Max. For a pocket, this isn’t critical, but the thin body influenced another important decision.
Biometrics in iPhone Fold: Touch ID in the Button Instead of Face ID
Due to the ultra-thin body, Apple couldn’t fit Face ID sensors into the iPhone Fold. Instead, the smartphone will feature Touch ID built into the side button — similar to the iPad Air and iPad mini.
For some, this is a step backward: Face ID is more convenient for unlocking on a desk and for payments via Apple Pay. But Touch ID is a proven technology, and for many users, this won’t be an issue.
iPhone Fold Screen Crease and Other Details
In the mockup photos, a hinge is clearly visible in the middle of the inner screen. But mockups are made for case manufacturers and don’t represent the actual display quality.
According to numerous rumors, Apple has developed a virtually invisible crease on the screen, and in the actual device, the inner display should look like a single seamless panel. The mockups also don’t show camera cutouts or the MagSafe ring — those will be added in the final version.

The hinge is clearly visible on the mockup, but in the real device the crease promises to be nearly invisible
iPhone Fold Specifications Based on Leaks: Screen, Dimensions, Hardware
- Screen when unfolded: about 7.8 inches
- Form factor when folded: wide, resembles a passport
- Thickness when unfolded: less than 5 mm
- Thickness when folded: about 9.5 mm
- Unlock method: Touch ID in the side button (no Face ID)
- Screen crease: reportedly nearly invisible
The iPhone Fold, if the leaks are accurate, will become Apple’s first foldable smartphone and one of the most unusual iPhones in recent years. For those who value a large screen for video and content consumption, it may be a good fit — but you’ll have to accept the body width when folded and the absence of Face ID. It’s too early to expect an exact price and release date based on mockups — for now, this is insider information, not an official announcement.
