HUAWEI is gearing up for one of the biggest announcements of the year. The Pura series has always been about cameras, design, and the desire to prove that the Chinese manufacturer can make flagships no worse than Samsung and Apple, despite sanctions. The previous generation set a high bar. Now it’s interesting to see what the HUAWEI Pura 90 will be like. Especially since quite a few unexpected pieces of news have already accumulated around the new series.

Latest News About HUAWEI Pura 90
Let’s start with what won’t be happening. Almost nothing has been said about the base HUAWEI Pura 90 smartphone — neither officially nor in leaks. It may come later, or it may not exist at all. HUAWEI hasn’t commented yet. However, the HUAWEI Pura 90 Ultra has been canceled. Well-known Chinese insider Digital Chat Station reported that one of the manufacturers canceled an Ultra smartphone that was planned for an April announcement.
Given that OPPO and vivo have already shown their Ultra models, this clearly refers to HUAWEI. The reason is straightforward: the model in development was almost identical to the Pro Max, and releasing it separately simply didn’t make sense. So at launch, the series will include two smartphones: HUAWEI Pura 90 Pro and HUAWEI Pura 90 Pro Max. And judging by what’s already known, they won’t be boring. At least on the outside.
HUAWEI Pura 90 Specifications
There are no official specs yet — HUAWEI will reveal them at the presentation. But leaks and official teasers already paint a fairly complete picture. The HUAWEI Pura 90 Pro design and Pro Max retain the signature triangular camera module with rounded corners — a recognizable hallmark of the series. What’s new: a flat frame instead of a curved one, giving the smartphone a more modern look. And the main detail: HUAWEI is returning to gradient color schemes that made the P20 and P30 series instantly recognizable.

HUAWEI Pura 90 Pro colors: Orange Soda, Pink Guava, Mulberry Black, Coconut White. The HUAWEI Pura 90 Pro Max is available in Orange Ocean, Purple Sunset, Emerald Lake, Dawn Gold, and Obsidian Black variants. All except black and gold feature gradient transitions. As for the hardware:
- Processor: Kirin 9030 in the Pro, Kirin 9030 Pro in the Pro Max. Both chips debuted in the Mate 80 series and showed a performance increase of about 40% compared to the previous generation.
- Display: 6.87 inches, LTPO AMOLED, 1-120 Hz, 1.5K resolution, peak brightness up to 8,000 nits, Kunlun Glass 3.0. Important note: both smartphones get a flat 2.5D display instead of a curved one. This is more convenient for everyday use.
- Battery: up to 7,000 mAh in the Pro Max, 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
- Protection: IP68/IP69K.
- Operating system: HarmonyOS 6.1.
Cameras are the main trump card of the series. Both Pro smartphones will feature a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens — a first in the history of the Pura lineup. Optical zoom in the 3.5x-10x range with improved night shooting at long focal lengths. The main sensor measures 1/1.28 inches, putting it on par with the largest sensors on the market. Support for 4K video at 120 frames per second. Second-generation processing from the proprietary Red Maple Imaging System.
When Will the HUAWEI Pura 90 Be Released
The HUAWEI Pura 90 Pro and Pro Max presentation will take place on April 20, 2026 at 9:30 AM Moscow time. The event will be held in China. Pre-orders for both smartphones have been open on HUAWEI’s official website in China since April 10.

Sales in China start on April 22, just two days after the announcement. This is unusually fast for a flagship series and indicates that production is already up and running.
Expected Price of the HUAWEI Pura 90
The official HUAWEI Pura 90 Pro and Pro Max price has not been announced yet. The previous generation’s prices serve as a reference: the Pura 80 Pro started at 6,499 yuan (~$900), and the Pura 80 Pro+ at 7,999 yuan (~$1,100). The new models will likely be more expensive. There are several reasons:
- a global memory price crisis (components have become more expensive across the entire supply chain);
- the new 200 MP periscope module is a costly solution;
- a larger battery and new chip.
We’ll find out the real numbers on April 20. For now, we can only speculate about how competitive the new HUAWEI smartphones will be compared to other Chinese flagships.
HUAWEI Pura 90 Release Date in Russia
The HUAWEI Pura 90 release date in Russia is expected closer to summer 2026. The Chinese manufacturer traditionally brings flagship series to the Russian market with a delay of several weeks after the Chinese announcement.
