As a national messenger, MAX is quite different from its foreign counterparts. Unlike Telegram, it openly states the possibility of sharing data with third parties, and generally operates by different rules. Because of this, it’s not entirely clear how communication works within the national messenger. In particular, many people don’t know how to tell if a user has blocked you in MAX, and whether you can even find out. But we’ve figured it out.

Does MAX Have a Block List

Although the national messenger operates by different rules, the ability to add someone to a block list is available. We covered this in detail in our article about how to block a contact in MAX.

This means that theoretically, any of us could be added to the block list in MAX. But how do you find out? Does the messenger notify you about being blocked, or do you have to rely on indirect signs?

How to Tell If You’ve Been Blocked in MAX

The messenger does not notify you if another user has blocked you in MAX. This means the signs of being added to the block list are only indirect. What does a blocked person see in MAX? They can see the avatar and the last seen time, if it hasn’t been hidden in the user’s privacy settings. So how can you tell if you’ve been added to the MAX block list? There are only two signs:

  • messages don’t get delivered in MAX;
  • when trying to call, a message appears saying “Only accepts calls from contacts.”

However, these indirect signs are not 100% confirmation of being blocked. A single checkmark in MAX may simply indicate that the user hasn’t read the message, and the notification “Only accepts calls from contacts” is often just a feature of MAX’s security settings, where a person can actually restrict calls from people who aren’t in their phone book.

Therefore, you cannot definitively know if you’re on the MAX block list, and the indirect signs may only mislead you. But it’s still worth checking, because otherwise you won’t know at all.
