Lenovo took a different path with the Legion Y700 series and has been proving for five generations now that a gaming tablet can be the size of a book. Honestly, when I saw the specs of this new device, my first thought was simple: why does a tablet need 24 GB of RAM?

The fifth-generation Lenovo Legion Y700 features an 8.8-inch IPS LCD display with 3K resolution, or more precisely, 3040 x 1904 pixels. The pixel density works out to about 409 ppi, so you won’t see any pixelation even when looking very closely. The screen refresh rate is 165 Hz, which is an excellent figure for a gaming tablet. In practice, the difference between 120 and 165 Hz isn’t as noticeable in everyday tasks, but in fast-paced games like shooters, the extra smoothness is definitely felt.
Brightness is rated at 800 nits, and color depth is 12-bit. For an LCD panel, these are quite respectable numbers, though of course it’s hard to compete with AMOLED in contrast and black depth. However, it does have TÜV Rheinland certification for low blue light emission and flicker-free operation, which matters for long gaming sessions. The touch sampling rate deserves special mention: instant touch sampling reaches 2640 Hz, and multitouch operates at 480 Hz. Lenovo also claims tenfold touch precision for zooming and stylus work. Yes, it’s LCD rather than OLED, but for its category, the screen turned out very well.

How Powerful Is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in the Tablet
This is where things get really interesting. The Lenovo Legion Y700 5th Gen runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, one of the most powerful mobile chips available today. The tablet scores 4,532,189 points in AnTuTu, which is, to put it mildly, a very serious result. For comparison, last year’s generation on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scored roughly half that. Of course, synthetic benchmarks and real gaming performance don’t always correlate, but the power headroom here is enormous.
It all runs on Android 16. The maximum memory configuration is impressive: up to 24 GB of LPDDR5T RAM and up to 1 TB of UFS 4.1 Pro internal storage. If that’s not enough, you can add up to 2 TB more via a memory card. In practice, 24 GB of RAM in a tablet isn’t needed by everyone, but if you’re the type of person who keeps a dozen apps open simultaneously while running a demanding game, that amount certainly won’t go to waste. The base version with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage is also quite viable for most tasks.
Cooling is handled by a third-generation Qiankun heat dissipation system with a vapor chamber area of 17,353 mm². This is an important point because a flagship processor without proper cooling quickly starts throttling and turns into an expensive hand warmer. Lenovo clearly learned that lesson.

Cameras in a gaming tablet have never been the main selling point, and the Legion Y700 5th Gen is no exception. On the back, there’s a 50 MP module with LEGION HALO ring RGB lighting. The lighting will most likely come in handy for video calls or streaming, but I wouldn’t count on photographic quality at the level of flagship smartphones. The 8 MP front camera is also unsurprising: sufficient for video calls, but hardly for anything more.

How Long Does the Battery Last and How Fast Does It Charge
The Lenovo Legion Y700 5th Gen has a 9000 mAh battery. For a compact 8.8-inch tablet, that’s an excellent figure. With that battery capacity and an energy-efficient chip, you can expect several hours of active gaming, and in normal use mode, the tablet will easily last a full day.
Charging is supported at 68W, plus there’s a bypass charging mode. The latter is especially useful for gamers: when plugged in, power goes directly to the system, bypassing the battery, which reduces heat and doesn’t wear out the battery during long gaming sessions. For a gaming device, this isn’t just a nice bonus — it’s practically a necessity.
What Gaming Features Does the Lenovo Legion Y700 5th Gen Have
Lenovo didn’t stop at just powerful hardware and added a whole set of AI features for gaming. There’s an AI performance scheduler that distributes resources based on load, AI network acceleration for more stable connections in online games, AI sound recognition version 2.0, and AI aim assist version 2.0. I’ll be honest — I always approach such marketing “AI” labels with a dose of skepticism. In practice, the difference often turns out to be less impressive than in press releases. But the very fact that the manufacturer is thinking about optimizing the gaming experience at the software level is encouraging.
The built-in AI assistant Tianxi also deserves mention. It works as a system-level intelligent agent and can adapt to different scenarios: studying, entertainment, and everyday tasks. Moreover, some functions work locally, without an internet connection. How useful this is in real life remains to be seen, but for the Chinese market, where such assistants are actively developing, the solution looks logical.
How Much Does the Lenovo Legion Y700 5th Gen Cost and Where to Buy
The tablet is already on sale in China in three configurations. The base version with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage costs about 3,999 yuan, or approximately $582. The mid-tier configuration with 16 GB and 512 GB will cost 4,799 yuan (about $698), and the top model with 24 GB and 1 TB costs 5,999 yuan (about $873). In China, subsidized prices apply, and students get additional discounts, allowing the base version to be purchased for about $480.
An important note: on the global market, the tablet is sold under the name Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5, but the top configuration with 24 GB is only available in China. In Europe, prices start at around €1,000 with less memory, so the Chinese version looks noticeably more attractive in terms of price-to-specs ratio.
